Rev'd Sarah Tierney
Sarah was born in Shropshire but as the eldest daughter of an RAF pilot she spent much of her early childhood in different places, living in Wiltshire, Hampshire and Somerset. She came to Lincolnshire in 1990 to train to be a teacher at Bishop Grosseteste College and apart from a year teaching in Madrid she lived in Lincoln until 2017 when she went to Bristol to study theology. During her twenty two years in teaching she undertook several leadership roles including Senior teacher, the teacher responsible for children with Special Medical and Educational needs and several periods as the Acting Head Teacher. Her call to ordained ministry began in the late 1990’s but circumstances led to her pursuing a teaching career. However, ten years later God began to remind her of his calling and after an interesting journey she finally began her ministry!
For the last few years she has been a curate in Scunthorpe and has loved the people and the opportunities that this time has given her. She enjoys being creative and so sews, bakes, spends a large percentage of her spare time in her garden, and for exercise and reflection walks or cycles (although is not so keen on the hills!!) but her great love is reading. So, if you know any good books or local book groups, let her know.
It was just over two years ago that she went on the Curates Residential weekend and came away with more than she expected, after meeting Simon (a self-supporting minister), who last December became her husband! She considers it a real joy and privilege to join The West Grantham Group of Parishes and is excited to see how God will lead them in the next few years.
