Prayer

We invite you all to join us as we gather for prayer this Saturday evening, from 6:00-7:00 pm, at our All Church Prayer Meeting at Astoria First Assembly of God Church. —

Jesus said:

Matthew 6:6

'But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.'

Prayer is an essential part of the Christian's life. When we pray we are 'Being with Jesus, with others on our heart'

Each month. alongside prayers for your family, your community and yourselves we ask that you might consider prayers for a particular topic.

November 2025

This month I am asking if you would consider praying about the contentious issue of immigration. Before I begin, I would like to clarify:

  • asylum seekers (a temporary status for someone seeking protection while their case is being processed)

and

  • Refugees (a final, legal status granted after an asylum claim is approved, providing legal residence and rights)

There is a lot of discussion in the press around this issue, and we need to be mindful that short headlines can be misleading. I also recognise we all have a different perspective on this subject but we can all still pray.

If you would like to know more then, here are some links to websites, reflecting different perspectives, with information about this subject: - Migration WatchBreaking Barriers website or Red Cross

Matthew 18:19 "When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three

One of the most direct Bible passages about Refugees is Leviticus 19, which says:

33 “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. 34 The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.

Since the subject involves vulnerable people we can be sure that God cares about the subject and as his people it is good to pray over the issues. You might like to include some or all of the following, as your feel led:

  • For people living in camps around the world (75% of the 123 million displaced people)
  • For protection across the world from abuse and exploitation
  • For an end to illegal immigration
  • That those in the UK may have their case heard quickly
  • That people who can remain will integrate well to British culture
  • An honest and prudent national debate on immigration
